Pulled Pork Sammich

There is nothing tastier than a sloppy, juicy, pulled pork sammich!

To prepare the pork:

Buy a cheap pork roast. A rolled-shoulder roast is a good choice. Stick the roast in a crock-pot and set the temperature to medium. Cover and let the pork cook for about 6-7 hours. Stick a meat thermometer in and be sure the meat is cooked all the way through, until it 170 degrees. Let the roast cool down. It's got to be pretty cool because to pull the pork, you are going to have to get your hands full of the cooked meat.

To pull the pork:

Take two forks and stick them in the middle of the roast and pull them in opposite directions. That will get you started. Then just kind of shred the meat into the longest, pieces that you can. Pull the fat off, you won't want to use that. Keep the pieces pretty thin. This can take a while. I suggest putting on some nice music and inviting a family member to sit down around the kitchen table to help you.

Once all the pork is pulled, put it in a bowl and mix in lots of good barbecue sauce. It will soak into the meat. I usually make my pulled pork the day before I am going to serve it so that it can sit at least overnight in the sauce and soak up all those favors.

How to make a pulled pork sammich:

Heat up the pulled pork in a frying pan. Split open a hamburger bun. The best kind of bread to use is cheap, white buns. You want the sauce to melt the bread and get all soppy. Fancy buns with seeds just won't do for this recipe.

Pile on lots of warmed up pulled pork. Pile it high. Then pour on extra barbecue sauce so it is nice and juicy. Then smash the top of the bun down on the pork, open real wide and enjoy. Serve with lots of napkins!

If you want to serve something else with your sammiches, try coleslaw or potato chips.
